Meggitt to monitor Siemens turbines for Egypt Megaproject

Meggitt PLC, a leading international group specialising in high-performance components and sub-systems for energy, aerospace and defence markets, has partnered with Siemens to provide its VibroSight® 3 software and VM600 machinery monitoring systems for the Egypt Megaproject, a programme to supply 45 million Egyptians with electricity.

Meggitt’s solution monitors the combustion dynamics and vibration in the turbines of the three 4.8 gigawatt turnkey combined-cycle power plants that Siemens is building for the Egypt Megaproject. This solution enables operators to monitor machinery health, flag critical events and make the decisions necessary to protect machinery and reduce operating costs. The combustion monitoring part of the systems is integrated into closed-loop control. A key milestone took place on November 28th, 2016 with the first fire of the gas turbine in Beni Suef.

Used at hundreds of power plants worldwide, VibroSight® is a software platform for configuring, operating and managing VM600 machinery monitoring systems that can also integrate other system data. With many new features and enhancements, the latest version of the software ensures a super-fast, in-depth analysis and quick retrieval of data.

The VM600 is a powerful, modular and scalable rack-based monitoring system and is the only one on the market that provides machinery protection, condition monitoring and/or combustion monitoring in a single package.
