Meggitt’s breakthrough wireless technology speeds up business jet aircraft tyre pressure checks
Meggitt PLC, a leading international aerospace and defence engineering group, today announces that it has been awarded a contract with Textron Aviation, a Textron Inc (NYSE: TXT) company, to develop a wireless system that can check the tyre pressures on a business jet aircraft in just a few seconds, replacing the need for a manual gauge. This latest piece of Ground Support Equipment (GSE) can transmit and collect data from several meters around the aircraft.
The proprietary system allows data to be rapidly downloaded to a smart phone or other standard device running the Textron Aviation Service app. This state-of-the-art connected system is ready for the digital era and eliminates the need for crawling underneath the airplane to check individual tyre pressures.
This follows on from Meggitt’s long experience in providing wireless systems for aircraft which started in 2000 with the introduction of the first flight-essential wireless system to monitor smoke detectors in aircraft cargo holds. Meggitt’s wireless systems are now flying in over 1,500 aircraft, including the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and more applications are in development and undergoing certification.
